In cases where you need to take a short absence of up to 7 days due to illness, you have the option to self-certify. This means that you can provide a written confirmation of your absence without the need for a doctor’s note. However, please note that we are unable to issue a fit note until this initial 7-day period has passed.
Completing the Self Certification Form
To initiate the process of self-certification, please fill complete the Self Certification Form. This form serves as an official record of your absence and enables your employer to pay Statutory Sick Pay, where you are eligible. You can fill in this form on the Government’s website.
Sick Note Requests
For absences exceeding 7 days, you may require a sick note (also known as a fit note) issued by a GP. There are two primary methods to request a sick note:
- Online Access Tool: Use our Online Access Tool to request a sick note. Click the link below and provide as much information as possible. It’s important to note that in some cases, a GP might want to have a brief conversation with you before issuing the sick note. If this is necessary, we will inform you when you make the request.
- Phone Request: Alternatively, you can contact us directly to request a sick note. Similar to the online method, a GP might require a quick discussion with you before proceeding with the sick note issuance.
Processing Time for Sick Notes
Once a GP approves the issuance of a sick note, please be aware that it might take up to five working days for the note to be prepared. Sick notes can be backdated, meaning that they are valid for absences that have already occurred, providing you with the necessary coverage for your time away from work.
Important Note About Prioritisation
While we understand the urgency that can accompany your need for a sick note, we want to inform you that we are unable to prioritise requests to expedite the process. Each request is handled in the order it is received to maintain fairness and efficiency in serving all patients.
